What is Financial Moxie?

February 19th, 2006

What is Financial Moxie? This is something that we get asked a lot. Okay, so far we’ve only been asked that once twice, but it is still worth explaining. We’ll begin with some definitions:

fi·nan·cial: of or relating to the system that includes the circulation of money, the granting of credit, the making of investments, and the provision of banking facilities; the obtaining of funds or capital

mox·ie: Energy, Courage, Determination, Skilled

This site is financial because it is going to help you navigate your personal finances by showing you how we do it, and by giving you the skills and courage to take charge. We will discuss topics such as your credit rating, banking, investing, automobile purchases, and anything else that can hit your wallet.

MoxieTM is a soft drink that has been around for longer than Coca-Cola or Pepsi. It has been on the market since the latter half of the 19th century, although it is tough to find outside of the New England area these days. The company never fully recovered their market share after the price of sugar dropped before the Great Depression in the 1920’s. Moxie is an American term that has come to desribe individuals who exhibit an uncommon degree of spirit or nerve. When somebody is really passionate about something and has the skills necessary to act on that passion, they are said to be “full of Moxie.”

We are full of Financial Moxie, and we are going to share what we know with you.
